Spring Gardening

Spring Gardening

If your anything like us at Rug & Weave you’ve probably been looking forward to Spring!  Now that we've had our hopefully last snow in Guelph, Ontario, it's time to head out to the garden & get ready for spring!  We’ve put together a few key things we like to keep in mind when we're getting our gardens ready for this new season of growth & renewal.

Let's start the cleanup near the front of our home. Tidying beds near your front door or walkways is a good reminder that you've begun the cleanup process. Walking past messy gardens can be "not so inspiring" and slightly overwhelming.

Gently remove matted leaves to uncover early spring bulbs. Nothing says spring like seeing bulbs sprout!

Make sure you have a good pair of gardening gloves to protect your hands and fingernails from all that work you'll be doing in the garden. That being said, if you're planning on putting fresh mulch down this year, try doing some research in your area to find a locally produced material. We always try to skip plastic and choose local big bag delivery.

Treat yourself to some colour! A big bowl of pansies or violas at the front door early spring is such an inspiration! We love using terracotta planters for this as they have such a classic look and feel. Spring garden cleanup can sometimes be daunting, so having that little splash of colour might be exactly what you need to get into the spirit of things!

Another spring treat is to invite birds to your garden. Make sure to empty nest boxes of old nests and try to add a new birdhouse or two!  Hearing the birds chirp and sing amidst the ever evolving garden landscape can help transport anyone to a place of calm & serentiy.
